Welcome to confessions of a... rookie poker player! This webblog documents my experience with online poker starting at the beginning.

About the Rookie Poker Player

My name is Aaron and I live in Manchester.  I’m a web developer and a fan of poker.

I originally started playing poker in school and developed quite a taste for it.  At that age however I had not heard of Texas Hold’em and was playing regular 5-card stud.  Later-on I found myself watching the compulsive “Late Night Poker” on TV and realising the variety of games and skills involved.  That was where I developed my love for Texas Hold’em.

Obviously arranging a real-world game can be difficult for most of us which is where online poker comes into it’s own.  There are many great things about playing poker online but for me the initial interest was how simple it was.  By definition, Texas Hold’em is a community game and playing poker online gives you that community element straight off.

Now the reason this weblog is called “Confessions of a… rookie poker player” is quite simple.  Although I know the basics of poker and even the basics of Texas Hold’em, I know my limits.  I intend to build up a significant knowledge of the rules, strategies and history of the game so that I can get the most enjoyment out of playing online poker.
